Raise your hand if you noticed I’ve been absent for a while….
Well, I haven’t been writing the blog because there really hasn’t been much to write about. I wasn’t running, I wasn’t working out, I was eating fast food, and quite frankly life started to take control over me. I wasn’t allowing myself time to work out for even 30 minutes during the day. I was finding a reason or excuse to get ice cream or fast food almost daily. I was not adjusting to the chaos in my life of work, school and family.
However, this past week most of that changed. I started a 22 week (yes, I feel that I need at least that long) training program found here. I got up at 4:45am two days this week and completed the 3 mile runs. Then on Saturday, I was supposed to complete a 3 miler but participated in a 4 mile race with a good friend. I was just hoping to finish without walking. I hadn’t run very much lately and the furthest I’d gone was 3.2 miles in the last week. It was a perfect day for running and I found my rhythm quickly. I kept an 8:34 pace the entire race and finished at 34:15. I completed this race right around 32 minutes two years ago when I wasn’t pregnant and quite frankly at the peak of my running ability. I had improved my time slowly over a year and was extremely excited for that 32 minutes. This race was no different. I was overjoyed that I was able to complete it in just over 34 minutes. It gave me the confidence booster I needed to get up for week 2.
So, over the course of the next 22 weeks, I will be blogging about my training. I have arbitrary goals for Columbus at the moment, but as I approach race day, I’m sure my goals will change. I will be able to better gauge my abilities during the long runs as we get a month or two out from r-day (race day). If you are interested in training for the marathon with me, comment below! I would love race buddies and I know we can all use some extra encouragement as the weeks move on.
Sorry I don’t have any photos from the race on Saturday. I will try to be better at taking photos to add life to this blog!
Be confident, be fit, be you!
